Scioto Mile

This wonderful urban park meanders alongside the eastern bank of the Scioto River right next to downtown Columbus, and contains many interesting features.

The paved boardwalk alongside the river is lined with beautiful bronze fountains and large swinging benches from which on can  watch the sun rise or set. After seeing the sun set, the walkway along the river highlights the city lights on both buildings and bridges alike, making the city look magical. The park includes a 15,000 square foot interactive water fountain that will amuse people of all ages. At certain times of the day, the fountain is programmed to do a show coordinated with lights and music. At the northern end of the park sits a life-size replica of Christopher Columbus’s Santa Maria, that can be toured for a small price.

Parking is not free, but is easily found in metered spots alongside the park or on the other side of the river at COSI. The park can also be accessed by the Olentangy River Greenway, which runs directly through the park.
