History

In 1816, the city of Columbus, named for Christopher Columbus, was set as the capital of Ohio. The city steadily grew due to it’s railroad connections and soon became a industrial based city. As the city aged, the town was changed from smokey factories to tall office buildings dotted with small parks. The city has recently landscaped the area by the Scioto River that runs through the city in order to be more friendly to afternoon strollers or bikers. With the massive changes the city has made since it got it’s meager beginnings in 1816, it is obvious why it has become the 15th largest city in the country with 800,000 residents. Columbus has also become notable for being the home to The Ohio State University, Wendy’s, Limited Brands, the Columbus Zoo, Big Lots and Nationwide Insurance.
